Warm-up is a mandatory part of every Kyokushin training session. Its main purpose is to prepare the muscles, joints, and cardiovascular system for physical activity.
A warm-up typically begins with light jogging and exercises to heat the body up. This is followed by joint mobility work, which helps improve range of motion and reduce the risk of injury. After that, athletes move on to stretching and dynamic exercises.
In Kyokushin, special attention is paid to preparing the legs, core, and shoulder girdle, since these areas are actively engaged during strikes and kumite. Jumping exercises and light striking combinations are also often included in the warm-up.
Some beginner athletes underestimate the importance of warming up, but it is precisely the warm-up that helps the body adapt to physical demands. Cold muscles respond more poorly to movement and are much more prone to injury.
A quality warm-up improves coordination, increases movement speed, and makes training both more effective and safer.
