Soto uke is one of the basic blocks in Kyokushin karate. The name translates as «block from outside to inside.»

The technique is used to defend against:

Soto uke is included in:

— kata;
— belt exam preparation.
For proper execution it is important to:

— maintain the stance;
— use the forearm correctly.
In Kyokushin, great emphasis is placed on the hardness of blocks. That is why soto uke is trained through repeated repetitions and partner drills.
The block is considered one of the key defensive techniques in full-contact karate.
