Ura mawashi geri is a reverse roundhouse kick considered one of the most technically demanding and spectacular techniques in Kyokushin karate. The kick travels along an arc with a foot rotation and is often used to attack the head.

Unlike a standard mawashi geri, ura mawashi geri follows an unusual trajectory, making it harder for the opponent to defend against.

The technique requires:
— excellent flexibility;
— coordination;
— a strong sense of distance;
— high speed.

In Kyokushin, ura mawashi geri is most common among experienced fighters, as the technique is difficult for beginners.

Many professional karateka and K-1 fighters have used this kick as a surprise knockout weapon.

Despite its difficulty, ura mawashi geri is considered an important part of the Kyokushin striking arsenal.
