Kata is a formal sequence of movements in karate that includes strikes, blocks, stances, and transitions.

In Kyokushin, kata is considered an important part of training alongside kumite.
Kata helps to:
— improve technique;
— develop balance;
— train breathing;
— understand the principles of combat.
In Kyokushin, the following kata are studied:
— Taikyoku;
— Pinan;
— Seienchin;
— Kanku;
— Garyu and others.
Each kata has its own rhythm and philosophy.
Many Kyokushin masters believe that through kata, a student gains a deeper understanding of the spirit of karate and the traditions of Japanese martial arts.
