Taikyoku are the introductory kata from which beginners start learning formal sequences in Kyokushin. They help newcomers study fundamental stances, strikes, blocks, and movement directions.

The main purpose of Taikyoku is to build a correct foundation. While performing the kata, the practitioner learns to control body position, maintain balance, and coordinate movement.

Despite their simplicity, Taikyoku plays a vital role in developing a karateka. It is through the repetition of basic movements that technique is formed — the same technique that is later used in kumite and more advanced kata.

Kata training also develops concentration and discipline. The practitioner must precisely follow the sequence of movements, rhythm, and direction of execution.

Many experienced masters continue to perform Taikyoku regularly even after years of training. This helps maintain the quality of their fundamental technique and refine their movement.
