Sergey Osipov — World Champion and One of Russia’s Most Dangerous Kyokushin Knockout Artists
Biography
Sergey Osipov is a prominent Russian Kyokushin fighter, International Master of Sport, world champion, and winner of numerous international tournaments. He was born on July 14, 1978, in the Moscow region.
He began training in karate in 1991. His first coach was Dmitry Yuryevich Kotvitsky, under whose guidance Osipov trained until 2000.
Sergey quickly established himself as an athlete with a distinctly aggressive attacking style and a powerful punch. Among Kyokushin specialists he was known for his ability to end bouts early with knockout strikes.
In 2004, Osipov was recognized as the best athlete in Kyokushin karate-do. After retiring from active competition he continued his service in the Federal Protective Service of Russia.
Path in Kyokushin
Sergey Osipov’s sporting career began in the early 1990s. Already in his youth he started winning major Russian competitions and became the national youth and junior champion three times.
By the mid-1990s, Osipov had established himself as one of the most promising fighters in the country. Victories at the Moscow Championship, the Eurasian Tournament, and the British Championship brought him international recognition.
He subsequently competed successfully across several of the largest Kyokushin organizations, regularly representing Russia at European and world events.
World Open performances
Sergey Osipov competed at the VIII IKO Absolute World Championship, held in Japan in 2003.
At one of the most prestigious events in world Kyokushin, he placed among the strongest fighters on the planet, finishing 7th in the final standings.
A top-8 finish at the Absolute World Championship is considered a serious achievement, as the World Open traditionally features the best competitors from Japan, Russia, Europe, and South America.
Osipov’s strong performance confirmed the high level of the Russian Kyokushin school in the early 2000s.

Sergey Osipov is one of the most decorated Russian fighters of the late 1990s and early 2000s generation. Over his career he won Russian championships, international tournaments in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, reached the top 8 at the IKO Absolute World Championship, and captured the world title in Kyokusin-kan karate-do.
Thanks to his powerful striking technique and numerous victories on the international stage, Osipov occupies a prominent place in the history of Russian Kyokushin.
