Shihan-dai is an assistant to the shihan in the Japanese martial arts system. In Kyokushin, this title is granted to masters who already have substantial teaching experience and help lead an organization or dojo.

The word consists of two parts:
— «shihan» — senior master;
— «dai» — deputy or assistant.

Shihan-dai:
— assists in conducting examinations;
— leads training sessions;
— trains junior instructors;
— participates in organizing tournaments.

In many Kyokushin federations, shihan-dai is considered an intermediate stage before receiving the title of shihan.

This title reflects a high level of trust placed in the individual by the organization’s leadership.
