Hanshi is one of the most prestigious titles in Japanese martial arts. In Kyokushin, this title is awarded to masters who have dedicated decades to developing karate and teaching students.

The word «hanshi» translates as «exemplary teacher.» The title is typically conferred on masters of 8th to 10th dan.

A hanshi:
— conducts international seminars;
— trains instructors;
— participates in developing the organization;
— preserves the traditions of Kyokushin.

Unlike a sensei or shihan, a hanshi is considered a world-class master commanding enormous authority.
